Running Flash functions

I was wondering how you run Flash functions from JS. I thought it was something like:

document.getElementById ("myFlash").myFunc ();
Also, the examples in Flash don't work. Am I dong something wrong or is it my browser prefs? Also, in Flash I can run JS.

Here its mentioned. Its purely as1 based and would not work on non-windows platform.

Could someone make an example of external interface from JS to AS? Also, I'm wondering if you need Flash 8 Pro?
