I just notice this guy posting on this site about wow gold. He'll probably get banned. He may even be just a bot. When a person (or bot) gets banned is it their user name that gets banned (or closed) or is their IP address banned as well? Although that last one would be kinda harsh.

The only reason I was asking was I was curious what your security measures were for such spammers and what the best method would be for me to deal with spam.

Incidentally I did actually try to read the spam post because I thought it might have some info on what methods Blizzard uses to track and counter spam. I play WoW occasionally and the spam on their is annoying, and now I get to see it here :P kinda funny :D

Heh, Blizzrd entertainment should pay me royalties...

Only DDadmin can answer this, but I prefer to think that their username, email, email base, IP, and ISP realm are all blocked, and then upon next attempt at log in their chair turns into a despair pit and they are swallowed into an abyss of pain and horrendous torture at the hands of foul smelling imps and fire heated pokers. That's just me though.

Haha! I think it's an IP ban.

When someone is banned, there are two options: permanent ban, and slow painful death. We usually just use the first one. But the second is what Blizzard described, y'know, for the worst offenders.

In short, they are banned from using the forum. This is reversible, if the mods/admin ever decide to reverse it, but permanent otherwise.

The banning process works very differently on forums and on Wow I suspect. For the later, really, only Wow can answer that, but I suspect they go all out, including IP ban.

True, forums can vary a lot in how they take care of spammers. The methods that spammers use can vary a great deal as well. I was a bit surprised to see WoW spammers here on dynamic drive though. When I did see the spammer it got me to wondering what methods the people in charge here on DD do to combat spam.

I was wondering if you do anything special. True it really does depend on the site though.

Thanks for the answers though :)

Later. (School starts in a few hours for me :/)

Well, it's probably not wise to divulge all the measures taken against banned members, but it's fairly standard, by email, IP etc. Banned members can only return by getting in touch with the admin (that's me).

How many of us actually play WoW?
It's an ineffective marketing strategy if I'm the only one...

Sounds like a normal day for me.
