so im tired of doing all my graphics and banners in paint...its too time consuming, is there anything out there that is good to use but is also free? i know its a tall order, good AND free, but thats what i need really. i was wondering if some of you could suggest some things or even just suggest what you use to do graphics?
The GIMP (http://www.gimp.org/) is a free, professional image-editing suite.

I like Paint.net (http://www.getpaint.net/)
I have that here at work and I think its just as bad as Paint. I stopped using it and switched to GIMP because of the features.

There are lots of free paint-esque programs out there. The GIMP is one of the best, fully featured ones, as Twey said, and most likely your best bet.
But it also depends on what you want to use it for.

if no one else has said this before... but i use Paint.Net... its pretty good and once you learn some of the cool stuff it can do you can do sick stuff... like glass orbs... realistic fire *my favorite*, splatter paintings, and other sick stuff so..
check it out on google the program is called "Paint.Net"...
Sick stuff? o.@ What kind of pictures do you draw? @.o
It's possible to do all that with the GIMP (I think, not entirely sure what a splatter painting is but I've done the glass orbs and some fire), and I think Paint.NET may be Windows-only.

I know what you mean.. LMAO
I like Paint.net (http://www.getpaint.net/)
Go with this guy^^(lol).
Paint.net has nothing to do with MS Paint.
you could also use inkscape.
Inkscape (http://www.inkscape.org/)'s good, but bear in mind that it's a vector-based package, and so might not by what was requested. I often use Inkscape for drawing then the GIMP for touching up.

yep, id go for GIMP. its like a free version of photoshop (probably not as many features, though). then, i use Picasa to put some kickin FX on it. Picasa can be downloaded here. (http://www.picasa.com) its made by google, and its really great. sorts all your photos! :) also, you can find tutorials for GIMP here. (http://www.gimptalk.com) EDIT: the GIMPtalk forums are down for some reason at the moment, should be good tomorrow.
peace.

Inkscape (http://www.inkscape.org) for some effects, GIMP for an all-around editor, and Paint.Net for the same.
