I've just finished my new website at www.clearlygreendesign.com and have been getting pretty positive feedback for the most part. I've had a few comments about slow loading times for swf files and am wondering if there is a way to optimize/compress the final swf file so it loads quicker without having to redo the entire site. I'm hoping there's a special trick or optimizing software out there to make the this easy...:)

Pre-publishing is the only way to optimize the final product. Flash already optimizes file size. Take a look at the .fla size compared to the .swf. Lowering the size of the pictures used, writing better code, etc. will all help loading times.

About the biggest mistake is people load in large pictures and sounds. If the picture is larger than your stage when you bring it in, Flash must use resources to make it smaller. Use photoshop or the gimp to decrease the pictures size BEFORE you bring it into Flash.

There are many ways to help bring load times down, but they are all pre-swf stage.
