Sending a file from server to server

Not sure if i'm posting this in the right section,
but what i'm trying to acheive is:

I have an online ordering system that produces an xml document once an order has been placed.
The xml file is stored in a folder on the web server. Each xml file has a unique name.

Is there anyway (maybe using php) that I can have that file sent to another server once it has been created?

The thought that jumps to mind is using PHP's built in FTP functions. php.net has them fairly well documented.

You could also just send the data as post data to the second server, or use various socket/etc functions, but those can be a bit hard to deal with, and post would require the user be involved.
