hi, i recently installed firefox (latest version) and found it much better than internet explorer 6 & 7, anyway when it came to the file saving and browsing it was a real hassle to get used to :( when i download something a box comes up with 2 options and it doesnt even give me the option to open it instead of save it.

i was wondering is there anyway i can get the window/box internet explorer brings up if i click to download something whilst still using firefox? or can setting be changed in firefox to dublicate a similar one to internet explorer?

it would be great of someone knows how to do this (if it can be done)

thnx for your time :)

It's also under edit > pref in Linux versions of FireFox and as I recal it has always been tools in Windows versions.

Don't know. I noticed it a few months ago. I run Fedora 7 at my office, which is where I spotted it.

FF 1.5 is pretty old. I can't remember back that far in Windows, but when I get a chance, I'll check if I still have a copy on an older machine.

In any case, FF was originally built on Netscape circa v 7 of that browser. That one I do remember, it is edit > pref.

Standardisation. I think on Linux/GNOME it's more common to find preferences under the "Edit" menu. Under KDE, applications usually have a dedicated "Settings" menu.

anyways i got a simple question to ask that im sure you could help me at, recently internet explorer has changed setup on its own (this is what made me install FF), it doesn't show the url bar at the top and theres no "File", Edit", "View" and so on at the top also.....this is what it looks like and i cant find where to change it back (if possible)

start > run > regedit

find key: HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer

find "noFileMenu" set to "0"
