Hi all,

I recently got this simple and cool...(well, a least it was small) PHP script from David Pye's site. (http://www.david-pye.com)..and i thought I would test it out on My Geocities Webpage (http://www.geocities.com/detartratedetartrated/main.html)

but I can't seem to make it work....anyone got ideas on what i'm doing wrong? It seemed simple enough...but I can't make the image appear on my webpage: it's supposed to be between the Random Webpage and Online Presence cell.

Thanks in advance!:)

No. GeoCities can't do PHP, or any scripting language. Only HTML.

It allows some limited Javascript, whatever doesn't conflict with the scripts it forces onto the pages. In fact, it forces some html as well.

if he looking to know if geocities supports php, and it doesn't. it would help to know an other free host that does, helping him test his php script.

Burning question: Does GoDaddy.com support PHP?

Godaddy does support php on its servers, but if you get a windows server, some functions (like the mail function) are disabled.

Hope this helps.

That's why they have a forum search function ;)

You need a linux server for your godaddy account to use php.

No. PHP is setup on the windows servers as well, but it has some features limited in odd ways. The most notable of these is the mail() function, which simply doesn't work. General PHP stuff works fine, though, *mostly*.

Well, it's worth noting that they do have some strange limitations, so don't expect PHP to work fully if you use a windows server with godaddy.

If you do start godaddy you will notice that they only support php 4.3.11, but you can upgrade for free to the latest version of php. here is a link to a page that displays all that godaddy offers on their linux servers

Ignore the line that says date last updated. I have been keeping up with this and notice that the updates apply only to the date last updated and never to the software. Still, I like what they have to offer for the price they ask, so I will stay with them.
