Hi.

I would appreciate if one of you guys can help me out on how to encode a link so that if it is clicked by someone and gets directed to a certain website and decides to make contact from there that it is known from where he clicked that link.
As I heared this is possible with Cold Fusion but I never used it.
Are there any other ways to do that?
Please someone put me on the right track here.

It's possible with any server-side language, but we can't help you unless you tell us which you're using. If you're not sure, ask your host what they support.

Thanks for the quick reply.
The site is hosted with HostMySite www.hostmysite.com and the hosting plan called Linux Builder Plus which supports PHP.
What "Server-Side Language" do I need?
If it's not included in the plan than I have to change for something more advanced.

PHP would be fine.

Probably just using this will work:

<?php echo $_SERVER['REFERER_URI']; ?>

PHP is your server-side language, and if you post in the PHP forum I'm sure someone can help you.

Just one thing before I jump to the PHP forum section.
I said that my web host supports PHP but the website I'm talking about is HTML not PHP is this ok or must the whole website be in PHP to do what I want to do...?...

you can create as many / few pages as you want in any/all programming languages, however its better practice to only use 1 server-side language (ASP/PHP) but theoretically you could use both languages, it would just be a nightmare to debug / make any sense of...

the short answer yes, its okay.

You will need a .php extension on the page (or a setting on the server that makes .htm act as php).
However, .htm(l) pages can link to .php and vice versa with no problem, for the site overall. For consistency, I prefer one extension on all files. But that is your choice.

If what I posted above is enough, and it may be, no need to start a new thread. (Note that Twey posted just one minute after I did, probably not seeing that answer.)
