Help with a Simple Menu Script

I have a very simple menu script that work very well to work with HTML and CSS to create a drop down menu. I need it to allow for a multi level drop down menu.

I thought I had it working right but I continue to get an error message that I need to declare the variable.

I know nothing about JavaScript except for what I am picking up on the fly.

Please help, I am pulling my hair out.
