Weird. I assume they must be fixing it, but the entire site is down. No links work (404s) and the index has some basic (though custom) error.
It's as if they were hacked or are under major construction.
And I wanted to use the validator.... :p

The validator isn't even on w3schools.com; instead it is on w3.org.

http://validator.w3.org/

As for their site going down; it looks like they are using M$ IIS for Windows, so they are probably working on a major update that just came out for it over the past couple of days. The server's we run at the casinos run it and will be going down for a few hours for this update as well.

Hope this helps.

The site you were trying to reach does not currently have a default page. It may be in the process of being upgraded.Long may it last!

No big deal. Huh. Well, I'm wrong about the validator. I always get the sites confused.
But google seems to think there's a validator on w3schools. I wanted to be sure the url was right.
http://www.google.com/search?q=w3schools+validator
But, in looking at the cached version, it is different. Yep.

I always get the sites confused. They're not even run by the same people. The W3C is a non-profit organisation, while W3Schools is run by an advertisement-funded company. Not to mention, of course, that were the W3C to write tutorials for their standards I'm sure they'd be of a much higher quality than those offered by W3Schools.

Twey, they simply use the same names. That is what confuses me. I don't use either very much, though.

Just w3schools' html test pages, and the validator at w3.

W3Schools is up now. They are so popular, sometimes I think that there is just too much traffic to get through to them.

w3schools isn't the best resource around... And it's very IIS centric.

What's IIS? If you mean Internet Information Services, isn't that primarily for servers? Most of what w3schools covers is for the web designer, not the server admin. Anyways, nobody in this thread ever said they were the best AFAIK. They are hugely popular and useful. I don't know if there is a single 'best resource' out there. It all depends upon your level of expertise, what information you need . . . The best resource is the one that gets you the information that you need right when you need it. This will vary greatly, depending upon many things.

It seems that w3schools.com is down again.

Are there any alternatives to w3schools? similar content, similar level or advanced level...

regards!

To paraphrase a song lyric:

It will be up, it will be down.
It'll plant your feet back firmly on the ground.
It flies so high, it swoops so low.
It knows exactly which way it's gonna go.
W3Schools. W3Schools.
