Hello,
How can I add next and previous links to the slideshow? So pressing on those links would bring up the next(or previous) image without effecting the slideshow..

You cannot change the image without affecting the side show. Changing the image is by definition changing the slide show. It gets worse. You cannot really change the image while the slide show is in motion without going through some moderately elaborate checking of the fade and image loading states of the two 'canvases' used by the show and deciding what to do about them. Then there would be the matter of actually instituting the buttons and their functions.

And, depending upon just what sort of effect you are looking for, it may be all you need.

can you specify for the slide show to appear as a bottom layer on your page so that the drop down nav will drop down OVER the photos? (problem is in IE or in both FF and IE if I use a CSS drop down nav). thanks.

Raise the z-index style of the nav elements to like 10000. Their position property must be relative or absolute, but most drop downs already are one or the other of these.
