1) Script Title: Featured Content Slider

2) Script URL (on DD): http://www.dynamicdrive.com/dynamicindex17/featuredcontentslider.htm

3) Describe problem: How can I display the linktext items in more than 1 line? It wraps with no margin

Inside the .js file, the following portion of the code basically deals with the look of the pagination links:

for (var i=0; i<slidernodes[sliderid].length; i++) //For each DIV within slider, generate a pagination link
pcontent+='<a href="#" onClick=\"ContentSlider.turnpage(\''+sliderid+'\', '+i+'); return false\">'+(slider.paginateText? slider.paginateText[i] : i+1)+'</a> '
pcontent+='<a href="#" style="font-weight: bold;" onClick=\"ContentSlider.turnpage(\''+sliderid+'\', parseInt(this.getAttribute(\'rel\'))); return false\">'+(slider.nextText || "Next")+'</a>'

What are you trying to do as far as insert a linebreak (ie: after which pagination link)?

Thanks for the reply. I have about 10 items (content div) and use text for the nav similar to:

var linktext=["horses1", "scenery1", "ocean1", horses2", "scenery2", "ocean2", horses3", "scenery3", "ocean3", "sushi3"] //custom pagination links text array
ContentSlider("slider1", 3000, linktext) //Auto rotate slider plus custom pagination links text

The buttons will not fit within the width of the content window. How do I display them in two lines? As it is, the script auto wraps the buttons to next line with no spacing between them and does not look very good.

Not tested yet, but try doing something like:

var linktext=["horses1", "scenery1", "ocean1", horses2<br />", "scenery2", "ocean2", horses3", "scenery3", "ocean3", "sushi3"]

Thanks.

Putting the <br /> tag works on Firefox but not on IE. The tag has to be put in front of the next item like this:

var linktext=["horses1", "scenery1", "ocean1", "horses2", "<br />scenery2", "ocean2", horses3", "scenery3", "ocean3", "sushi3"]

but this will leave the margin space at the end of the first line

I need to make it work for IE

Hmm it works for me in IE7. Do you have a link to the problem page?

Yes, it will wrap in IE7 but there's no spacing between line 1 and 2

In Firefox, putting <br /> tag at the end of an item will have same effect, no spacing between line 1 & 2:

var linktext=["horses1", "scenery1", "ocean1", "horses2<br />", "scenery2", "ocean2", horses3", "scenery3", "ocean3", "sushi3"]

Putting the <br /> tag at the beginning of an item works well except there's a gap from the padding at the end of the line

I tried to change css but could not get it to work.

Ok, one way that should work for sure is to wrap each line of pagination links within a DIV tag. So, inside the .js file, find this chunk of code:

var pcontent=""
for (var i=0; i<slidernodes[sliderid].length; i++) //For each DIV within slider, generate a pagination link
pcontent+='<a href="#" onClick=\"ContentSlider.turnpage(\''+sliderid+'\', '+i+'); return false\">'+(slider.paginateText? slider.paginateText[i] : i+1)+'</a> '

and replace it with:

var pcontent="<div>"
for (var i=0; i<slidernodes[sliderid].length; i++) //For each DIV within slider, generate a pagination link
pcontent+='<a href="#" onClick=\"ContentSlider.turnpage(\''+sliderid+'\', '+i+'); return false\">'+(slider.paginateText? slider.paginateText[i].replace("<br />", "") : i+1)+'</a> ' + (slider.paginateText && /<br/i.test(slider.paginateText[i])? "</div><div style='margin-top: 3px'>" : "")

Note the code in red- this is the margin between the each line of pagination links, by default, 3px.

You would still use the <br /> tag when calling the script where you want a new line to occur:

var linktext=["horses1", "scenery1", "ocean1", "horses2<br />", "scenery2", "ocean2", "horses3", "scenery3", "ocean3", "sushi3"]

The script will replace the <br /> tag with the appropriate DIV tag.

It works for me. I've attached the modified contentslider.js file.

Thanks ddadmin,
I found the problem. I was using the contentslider.js that you modified on 5/15/2007:

http://www.dynamicdrive.com/forums/showthread.php?t=20748&highlight=Featured+Content+Slider

I fixed my code and it works perfectly. Thank you!
