First of all, don't put !!!!! constantly. People won't answer.
In order to be good at computers, you need to calm down. Even if half of your components are on fire, you don't go and run around and scream.

What have you tried to do already?

I reinstalled all USB and CD drive drivers and unplugged the external drive, checked that the CD drives were properly seated in the motherboard and restarted the computer and disabled and reenabled all USB devices.

Hmm... this is making me feel like I'm in virtual court... :p
I assumed completely the opposite, as I have been having this problem for weeks now, and I was planning to burn several CDs yesterday. And if nobody will respond, then why did someone? I've replaced them with a period, however, not removed your notice, as I assume that would get me in bigger trouble. I will stay off the forums (mostly) until September 1st. Please let me live this time.

How many infractions to a ban again? Do expired ones count? What's that "non descriptive or meaningless title" one?

However, if that can lead to you getting banned, you should have it in the rules.

Unless they're all your hard drives with all your work for the past 5 years and you don't have a backup. Luckily, I make a backup every other day at 5 PM.

Sorry about the double posting. But, I WAS in the lounge, AND if you're going to put the link in, why not just replace the "bad" attachment with it?

Now now children... Stop arguing or you both have a time out.

Lain is probably correct, i've read up on Vista's DRM and Remember that it is supposed to freak out when new hardware is attached, lest it be used for pirating protected content.

It's kindof sad that that is the only substantial difference between the XP and vista kernels, after 6 years of work.

20. No. Err... John put that. You'd have to ask him.

Not my fault. Ask ddadmin.

Excessive exclamation points get my attention. I notice them, then I ignore the question.

As for any type of protest about infractions, stop posting repeated stupid stuff. We've given you plenty of warnings. You should know better. It's not like you are incapable of choosing to act mature.

Twey

I just realized most of the articles I've read were linked from /./. is obviously rather biased. As with most biased sources, they won't actually twist the facts, but they may omit some or word them in a way that makes them appear more or less significant than they really are. When you're looking something up, never rely on just one source, and be careful to read the facts in the article and ignore the way they present them.

The Vista kernel is/would be a major improvement over the XP kernel, potential bugs aside. The DRM features may, alas, slow down performance so much as to make it far less than ideal.

No, completely different IPs. They're not even from the same country.

Yea but im pretty sure that somone will make a patch to remove drm, everything else can already be stripped.

This (DRM), and all sorts of other things I imagine, is why Vista has higher sys req's than XP. If you installed to a machine not already certified as 'Vista Ready' or didn't upgrade to the recommended (and for good measure, a little better) required hardware or the machine came with Vista, but wasn't really configured to use it, all of these are invitations for trouble.

P.S. That bit about Active X, pcbuster and techno_race never being seen together in the same photograph, was just a joke.

Yea but im pretty sure that somone will make a patch to remove drm, everything else can already be stripped.I wouldn't be at all surprised if Microsoft issued a patch that attempted to prevent this somehow, perhaps by replacing the files with their original copies or by uninstalling Vista.
This (DRM), and all sorts of other things I imagine, is why Vista has higher sys req's than XP.Yes. There are other causes for it, but the DRM is the biggest issue: signals sent from any one piece of hardware to another are encrypted, and the machine polls itself every few milliseconds to ensure that nothing has been changed.
If you installed to a machine not already certified as 'Vista Ready' or didn't upgrade to the recommended (and for good measure, a little better) required hardware or the machine came with Vista, but wasn't really configured to use it, all of these are invitations for trouble.Indeed, and the Green Party is having a fit (http://www.greenparty.org.uk/news/2851) over all the wasted computers it will cause.
P.S. That bit about Active X, pcbuster and techno_race never being seen together in the same photograph, was just a joke.Ah -- sorry. An emoticon might have gone a long way.

Picky, picky, the joke started with:

We told you to stay away from Active X :)

and that wasn't like 200 posts back, it was my previous post in this thread, directly related and what the comments by you and Twey that I was responding to were ultimately directed at.

I can see how you guys could have gotten confused though. Sometimes I only read the current post before responding too. Can't I get a pass on this one? :p

Still, we never have seen the two of them together in the same photograph. :D

Quoth Microsoft:
Code 10
If the device has a "FailReasonString" value in its hardware key, that string is displayed as the error message. The driver or enumerator places this registry string value there. If there is no "FailReasonString" in the hardware key, the following generic error message is displayed:

This device is either not present, not working properly, or does not have all the drivers installed. (Code 10)

Try upgrading the device drivers for this device.

Solution button: Update Driver

To resolve this error code, make sure the device is connected to the computer correctly. For example, make sure all cables are plugged in fully and that all adapter cards are properly seated. Follow the suggested solution button and update the device driver. It may be possible to remove the device and redetect it using the Add New Hardware wizard.

I've tried that. It was already up to date on both drives.

Now it may sound like I'M being an a*s, but I'm not exactly willing to downgrade to Windows XP, lose the Aero interface and take the 5 hours to transfer my work, reinstall the CD drives, printer, scanner, hub, camera and all my software (100+ programs).

If you got business edition or ultimate it supports downgrading to xp pro
and as i have demonstrated you CAN have aero in xp

I think the restricted downgrades are a load of... fodder... There is no REAL reason to think that your computer can't use an operating system it once used, just because it ran a new operating system.

In Soviet Russia, sense makes you?
