Mysql tables???

I'm totally new to mysql but was wondering if it was possible to add columns to tables with existing data. e.g. u forgot a contact field in ur contacts data but u already have data in the table can u add a new field or have u got to create a brand new table and if so can you transfer all the old data to the new table?

You can add on to the existing table by using the ALTER (http://dev.mysql.com/doc/en/ALTER_TABLE.html) command.
