View Full Version : Need help with rssdisplaybox

07-08-2007, 03:01 PM
1) Script Title: RSS Display Boxes

2) Script URL (on DD): http://www.dynamicdrive.com/dynamicindex18/rssdisplaybox/index.htm

3) Describe problem: I've tried following step by step. When I load the page that the box is installed on I get a quick flash of initiating rss display box but nothing shows up.

The url of my test page is http://www.toledobend.com/home2.php
It should appear under "Latest News"

I appreciate any help....

You need to find out why your specified RSS feed is returning a blank page.

The ID of the RSS feed is "tb". With that said, directly attempting to call it returns a blank page:

It should be that you haven't created the cache directory or set its permissions properly, or that your server simply can't run Simplepie properly.

Thanks for getting back to me. The demo is working. I also left the dynamicdrive feed in and that seems to be working too.

However when I plug my feed in (id=tb) a blank page shows up. I'm waiting on support from my forum script to get back to me. Could it be an invalid feed url?
According to my forum site the url should be http://www.louisianaoutdoors.com/forums/cache/rss17.xml I'm not sure what else to think except that there is a problem with this url.

I appreciate whatever help you can provide.

Hmm your RSS feed is valid syntax wise for the most part it seems: http://feedvalidator.org/check.cgi?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.louisianaoutdoors.com%2Fforums%2Fcache%2Frss17.xml Are you sure inside main.php, that you defined it correctly? Please paste this portion of your main.php here:

//Specify list of RSS URLs
"cssdrive" => "http://www.cssdrive.com/index.php/news/rss_2.0/",
"bbc" => "http://newsrss.bbc.co.uk/rss/newsonline_uk_edition/front_page/rss.xml",
"nytimes" => "http://www.nytimes.com/services/xml/rss/nyt/HomePage.xml",
"dynamicdrive" => "http://www.dynamicdrive.com/export.php?type=new" //no trailing comma after last RSS URL!!

It turns out the problem (at least one) was the feed I was trying to use from my forum site wasn't running because the cache folder wasn't 777. All is working fine now. Thank you for the help!
