View Full Version : calling JS ticker content from external file?? Help!

I want to use the domticker that John wrote:

on my music site: www.thesallyconnection.com

This script basically serves up news content with auto fade and manual controls. I have tested it in my page and it works great.

My question is:
How do I convert John's script to call the content from an external file?

I want to place the content in an external file, say a text doc or html file that can be easily updated in one place.

Thanks in advance.

If your content is text, you could use AJAX to get it and then pass it to the other script, but modifing his script probably isn't too wise.

Hi, Thanks for your reply. Actually, I have found another ticker which better suits my needs and is easier to work with - however, now I have another problem - how to modify the buttons on this ticker to show Prev and Next, instead of the 1 2 3 next buttons (as displayed in the test page below).

As a secondary question which is not so urgent: is it possible to add a pause on mouseover effect?

Could someone with better JS knowledge have a look and suggest the revised code? I had a go, but couldn't figure out the JS needed to make it work.

My test page:
(see the latest news section, bottom right)

I am using the "Featured Content" ticker. The code etc can be viewed here
(I have modified the CSS for this on my site for better design fit):
