Okay my first question is how long do they last?

I was playing starcraft online and was waiting for the game to start, then i asked the person if he knows anything about monitors.

I asked him how long my lcd monitor would last and he told me i should never play games on it because the "constant refreshing rates" slowly kill the monitor.

i dont really believe that to be true, but ill ask here just to be sure.

i know the backlight wears down, right? after how long? if i keep the brightness down on it will i make the backlight last longer?

and can i play games safely on my monitor? it seems safe to me... better than my old windows 98 desktop 1000 pound monitor.

also, my monitor has refresh rates of either 59 or 60 herts available.
the microsoft website said that 75 is recommended.

is it normal to have just these two options available?

60 hertz is all that is possible for lcd as far as i know

but i dont -->think<-- that playing games will damage your monitor.

as for the backlight it depends if it is florescent tube or led it will most likley be led if it is newer.
led backlights should never go out

teh tubes have a problem when the transformer's transistor overheats they tend to blow

Plasma Televisions have a difficult time with complex graphic video games, such as Halo. My good friend bought a brand new 50" Plasma like 6months ago and it now freezes when he attempts to play any video games / movies, and occasionally when we are watching regular cable

non-moving things will burn-in with a plasma tv.

matte flatscreens aren't too bad. Shiny ones are horrible until your eyes adjust to them.
