All the descriptions of it are very vague. It also doesn't run on Linux.

No microsoft products run on linux. (natively.)
But as for silverlight, there's probabally an equal or better (or both) alternative out.
I dont know what silverlight is... the only thing by that name that i know of is a demon-slayer's sword in the game runescape.

Hmmm... It seems to be able to excecute ajax, python, C#, ruby and VB in the browser.
I'm not sure about the rest of you, but i think the ones that aren't redundant could pose a major security risk. (activeX all over again...)

Here microsoft's description of it:

"Silverlight is a cross-browser, cross-platform plug-in for delivering the next generation of Microsoft .NET–based media experiences and rich interactive applications for the Web."

looks similar to flash to me.

No microsoft products run on linux. (natively.)I noticed. I just thought it was misleading that they proudly proclaimed it to be "cross-platform."

It's designed as a Linux-killer: it ties in with .NET, so presumably the server must be running Windows and the .NET framework, and the client must run a closed-source operating system since it's not available for any open ones.
"Silverlight is a cross-browser, cross-platform plug-in for delivering the next generation of Microsoft .NET–based media experiences and rich interactive applications for the Web."Yup, nice and vague, just the way Microsoft likes it. I've been all through the site looking for a decent explanation already :)

Looks pretty snazzy. Shame it'll never be able to be used properly due to incompatibility.
