Freewebs for me was the best. Do you have comcast? If you do they give you free webspace that is better than freewebs, you just need your own webpage editor. Also try Geocities. I am not sure if they still are around or what but I used to use them. If that does not work try Angelfire. Currently Comcast provides me with my webspace.

Anyone else have any times please share them.

Oh, Thankx man. And no, i don't have comcast. But freewebs, The only reason i don't like it because i can't upload more then 50 files. And the geocities, I don' t know if you have much webspace or not. I'll try Anglefire. And i'll be coming back to look for me ideas on which is best for webhosting (that is free of course).

Also google it. You can find tons of stuff on google. Plus you can search for certain things. If you want webspace to show images and such you want something with a lot of space and a high bandwidth. Another thing is for images make them smaller to the size you want on the webpage instead of having these huge pictures that you use <img src="URL" width="px" height="px"> to define their sizes just do it before you upload them. Another thing that is good to use is adobe photoshop (if you have it) you can automatically turn GIF files (which are a little larger then JPEG) into JPEG files. You can also choose the quality and it tells you the load times and everything for different internet connections. Another tip for conserving file limits is if you have any pictures which are right next to each other open them up in photoshop (or paint) and highlight the entire thing and cut it then paste them both into one file. This will allow you to have two pictures but make it look like one. Another thing is avoid cluttering up your website with really small images that are used to fill the background and such. If you want a pattern on the side and want to conserve file ammounts use div tags then fill them with different colors. You can stretch out your image limits. I learned how to do that with freewebs when I was using them. lol.

NEAT!!! Thankz for helping. I got stuff on angelfire, i mean.. i never tried to use it. But, yeah i have photoshop and i just learned that you can make layout for your web. It'z sorta like i template i suppose. Not pretty sure. But then i don't know how to make those stuff... I just tried for like 3 whole days. i also have dreamweaver and don't know how to use that program. I spend 2 days on that. and it don't seem to work right. This post is getting ALOT interesting on what to use and not. Tips and all that stuff... Thankz you guyz for writing in this topic. For photoshop, you need to make layouts then you need to slice them in the program. If you don't want to slive them in the program than add divs and give it the position absolute attribute. If you have dreamweaver you should be able to drag it to the position you want without typing in percents or pixels. But slice it because that will work better. Get to learn photoshop because that can become of the webmasters best design tools.

HMmm.... i understand why.. but then, i have no clue about the silceing tool.. i never used even once.. well.. can you help me on that too =]

Nice site big T

I barely know how to use the slicing tool but I think you just outline what you want sliced... I use divs because it is easy for me to make a div and then just go into Frontpage and move it around. Oh yeah and thanks.. currently I am working on a website for my track team http://home.comcast.net/~allbonz89/track which is nothing really and it is full of problems.

Yes use a template because you can't make stuff like that right off the bat it takes a few years of playing around with stuff to finally become a good web designer. Also with graphics design you could make forum skins and everything and that is a big step towards making webpages. I think the key to a good website is one of these things or a combination - Good images, good place, good javascripts, and/or good flash design. If you have these elements your site will be very nice. Also don't go to elaborate with your site because then people find it bothersome. Here is a tip - don't use to many marquees because they are bothersome, never make people scroll horizontally on your site, place everything nice and neatly in tables or divs, give names to everything so they are easy to access, and if you want to go wild with your website make sure it flows sort of like a good painting. Also take a look at a complimentary color chart because good contrasting colors makes your site stand out.

04-19-2005, 06:49 AM
Do a quick google for .htaccess

It's nice and secure if your host supports it.

Hello all,

I am definitely a newbie to creating websites and all so please bare with me ok? Anyways ... I'm trying to create a simple webpage. I have an account with freewebs, and I created a domain name for myself with them because as I understand you DO need one of those right?? I then created a simple webpage using microsoft word. What I want to do is take that webpage and merge it with my domain name ... I think ... Is there anyone that is very familiar with freewebs that can help me out? I'm not sure if I'm doing anything right! LOL
