Can't make new file from template

I have been asked to work on a site someone else has created. Their templates are in a folder off the root folder. I have been told that there is a master template with linked ones from it. When I go either to the assets panel or file new from template, Dream Weaver (8) says that they don't exist, but I can see them there in the folder!! Do I need to navigate to them or what?

Any help gratefully received.

It's very hard to help with that, since you're basically saying "well, I think they're there, but it says they aren't", which doesn't give us too much info as to the specifics.
I'd suggest doing it manually. Go open the files in a browser, view the source code, salvage what you can, then recreate the rest.
