DVD to VCD converter

I'd like to convert a DVD to VCD. Could someone advise which is a good free softeware to use? There are so many available online and I do not know which one to download. I am also worried that I could end up with virus and so needed to have recommendation from a trusted source.

do you use nero?
if so update to version 6
ver 6 has an option for it (convert dvd to nero digital)
then you can burn it
