Since you are already using javascript for the scrolling, you would probably be better off using Image Thumbnail Viewer II (http://www.dynamicdrive.com/dynamicindex4/thumbnail2.htm) instead of CSS Image Gallery. With Image Thumbnail Viewer II, the display area can be outside of the scrolling area.

Using the scrolling script and Image Thumbnail Viewer II together may cause a conflict. If so, it can probably be easily solved. If that happens, ask here for help with that, if you need it.

Use a table or, floats - whatever you like. The display area is just a division:

<div id="loadarea" style="width: 500px">
This DIV will show my enlarged images!

It can go anywhere on your page that you like.

Also, as many folks wonder, you can put a default image and/or text in there and it will show until the first enlargeimage event occurs.

Wait a minute, you couldn't make the first one work either. This one could be worked out to look much like what you had and still work with the scrolling script. The CSS one could not. The lightbox (http://www.dynamicdrive.com/dynamicindex4/lightbox2/index.htm) and the other Image Thumbnail Viewer (http://www.dynamicdrive.com/dynamicindex4/thumbnail.htm) scripts do pop the larger image over the page so, might be easier for you though.
