Tagging word

We have a social networking web site in which we wants to tag some words, user are given an option to add tagging words from their profile e.g "World cup Cricket 2007" Every one else who have tagged on this word or pharse will be automatically linked to this person.

how we can highlight the tagged word in the users profiles?
I need a search algorithm which can search and convert these "tagged word" in to a hyperlink whenever they occur ?

What type of software or script are you running on the site. If it uses a template system you may be able to "peak" at the profile before and update/highlight as needed.

I know that PHP also has an output buffer, you may be able to send everything to the buffer and then access it and highlight before flushing it to the browser.
