some people are born with creativity, the rest of us learn it.
try reading some books or doing some tutorials.

chovy: I never learn from books(I just don't have the thing needed to learn from books).
BLiZZaRD: I have nothing, I am just trying to learn(which means I am doing this on free will and not for any project or anything). ;)

well, get image ready would be a good start
all the adobe art programs are freaking sweet
just randomly do some stuff and test stuff out to see the results and if you are satisfied, try posting it here and we will give our opinions :)

Demonicman: All the adobe programs are freaking expensive too. I instead use all the open source programs, they are better, free and work better than the proprietary ones.

Choose some good colors and fonts to start with. Pick three main colors you could use for your site and build around it (lightskyblue, blue, darkblue). Good fonts are tahoma 10pt, arial 11pt, verdana 10pt, verdana ref 11pt. There's alot of good fonts you could use. Remember: you're always trying to keep your content at the center of your users' attention, so again, build around your content, not your menus or headers/footers.
Just some notes:
-If you use H1 tags for headers, use font-weight:normal. It looks too blocky otherwise
-Standard link colors don't look proffesional, try to come up with something
-Most colors on your site (including images) should reflect your overall color scheme
-Be consistent on your content. (use similar headings, sub-headings, link navigation, etc.)

First of all visit others site which lie in the same category. I mean suppose you want to develop a site for a cloth merchant, visit the site of some other cloths merchants. and take some idea from there. Merge the their design in one design to make your own site. That's what I have done so far:D

Gimp is an image-editing program :)
and to vai... whatever his name is:
and take some idea from there.
Look but don't take. Although anything on the internet can be stolen, it doesn't mean you should. The "general idea" is good enough if you're after someone else's design.

I agree.
Thanks for the wonderful post guys.
As a simple start, can anyone give me any ideas to actually "design" a website(I mean design how it looks like, not designing the contents but designing the layout)?
I hope you get it. :D
I'll be creating(actually trying to create) a spare layout.
Thanks again!!!

One great technique is to work with inverted colors :)

Being Creative 101:
Cover your floor with newspaper
take a dog and cover it with paint, many different colors.
"Roll Over!"
??????
Profit.

Inverted colors?!?
Sorry, pcbrainbuster, but that doesn't generally look good. Invert basically means absolute opposite, and with web design (unless you're using black/white) it generally doesn't appeal.

What do you want to make?
A website about yourself? A website about somebody else?

tech_support: I just want to make a website(just for practicing), it's not for anyone, just interest.

Animation. Menus, rotating panels for the information, things to make it interactive. :)

BLiZZaRD: But that's an "interactive" website not a good looking and anyways, you still need some designing to place those.

Do you want to make a website on your design / portfolio or just a blog?

But that's what I want to learn.
Do you want to make a website on your design / portfolio or just a blog?
None of those, I just want to learn how to design websites and put them into normal HTML/CSS.

I didn't said to steal the design. I just said to merge the designs. I am not saying to put the design "as it is"

Well, you need an inspiration.
I just said to merge the designs.
No, don't do that. Look at the design and get ideas from it.
