Ok, I am wondering if (without a server) you can make a button, that uses the input field above it, searches an external file, and then comes back with an answer of yes or no.

Basicly
I want this button to check to see if the person's desired username isn't there. If it is, it could have a side message saying...Congrats! If its not...Sorry...

Thanks for uh, reading this I guess.
DOUBLE THANKS, for helping.
TRIPPLE THANKS for helping me make it!

Oh, if your gonna make it...
Here are some basic specs...
Bgcolor of the flash should be white or FFFFFF or 255 255 255.
If you want to use my button image... message me. And i'll lead you to the download section.
Text Color (of the button) is like white (if u use my button image)
BUT MESSAGE ME FIRST if your gonna make it!!! srry,

THANKS THANKS THANKS

I am guessing that by "without a server" you mean like an SQL database, right?

Using flat files this is possible, and I will work on some examples of how to go about it as my free time allows. It isn't a simple process, but doable. :D

Thanks Blizzard for volunteering to working on some examples for me! Really. I'd really (times 1,323,943,294,414,934,134,958,234,234.999(repeating)) appreciate it

And wats a SQL Database? is that like PHP without a server:confused:

:) IF it is i will Jump for joy, seriously:D :)

The file its checking is an xml file. It can also be a txt file (which would make my job so much easier).

SQL..MySQL, I just shorten it. It's a database that is used to save information, blah blah blah.

Now, this example isn't perfect by any means. It is CaSe SeNSitIvE, and doesnt care if words(names) are partial or complete..

Meaning "Rockonmetal" is in the "database" (txtfile) but an input of "Rockon" will return an "already being used" message.

Anyway, it should give you some idea. Of course you realize this isn't a safe method of doing this, but either way. :D

Hope it helps
