AJAX loading page

I'm new to AJAX and would wish to know how to create loading image effects while making an xmlhttp request. Basicly i want a simple example code for it which could explain things to me :). I need this for a website where i need to load different flash games. Loading flash takes time, so i thought a loading effect would be great :).
