Hi.

Can anybody of you guys tell me if there is a difference on how IE7 displays websites compared to IE6 or are there things that need to be considered if creating a website.
And is worth the upgrade or is it better to stick to FF for example.

Thanks in advance for your feedback.

There are likely lists if you google it, but it's a big thing.
Do you just mean appearence? What about CSS? Javascript? ActiveX? Flash? Etc.

There are a lot of things to consider.

Generally, just test and see what works. If you run into a problem, clearly that's a difference.

It's a very broad subject to give an answer for, and I really have no idea myself.

The only thing that comes to mind off the top of my head is the compatibility of PNGs with transparency.... none in IE6, some in IE7, and full in FF.

png transparency is fully supported in IE 7. It is supported via filter in IE 6. IE 7 does often present a new look to your pages, especially if you have been using the * html or !important hacks. But, since IE 7 is the most standards compliant IE yet, it will also render some styles that may previously been meant only for other browsers.

If you want to know which browser to surf with, any browser besides IE is safer. If you want to know which browser to design for, FF and/or Opera are good. You can later tweak for IE 6 and 7 if necessary via conditional comments.

Hi John.

Thanks for your reply.
Just to mention it even that's probably only in my case is when I check the stats for a page that I've made to see what is the most used browser always IE6 seems to be the most used browser to access the website.

Is this only in my stats the case or do other people have the same with their websites.

Thanks again.

IE 6 is probably still the most used browser. There is no way of knowing for sure but, most likely IE 7 will take over in that department in about a year or so.

This is due to its shipping (I believe) with new Windows machines and installations and to Microsoft's including it in their live update process.

.......thanks and I think you're right because it's preinstalled on most systems.

internet explorer was preinstalled on windows to push netscape out of the way so that microsoft could keep their monopoly on the software market.

Nah. Walt was fine. He did the disney spirit stuff. But then he died (and perhaps before that as other gained power), and disney became a business, not well.... disney.

Well, at least Minnie Mouse doesn't come pre-installed on your DVD player.

Can't argue with that.

I think that IE7 is genreally better than IE6 and FF. It has cool new features that you can do with HTML plus more security. It has a "Tab" for each window and can be displayed in "sections". Overall I liked IE7 Better.
