no pic of viruses, it was the avast boot scanner.
This is Kirby's computer.
when i went over to hang out with her, i found her computers monitor on its side because they didn't know how to change the graphics options.

Holy bejebus :) that's a lot of tracking cookies/adware. Do you use Spybot S & D as well? If not, run a scan with that and immunize quick! That's almost like hearing someone say, oh my computer doesn't need protection from Adware, Spyware, and Viruses (Virii?) because I run Windows Update. (Heard from one of my customers).

Yeah, So Now Im going to give Them A Set Of instructions To follow The first of Each Month.

1) Disk Cleanup
2) scandisk
3) Full Thorough Avast Scan
4) Adware scan
5) Defrag.

but its going to be hard because they dont know anything about comps...

I would set them up with AVG free as well, set it up to do auto scan/update daily. That way that's one less thing they have to worry about.

Spyware Blaster (http://javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html) is GREAT! I have actually replaced Spybot with it on a few of my work computers. I run it along side Spybot on all the others.

Good tools there!

Thanks Blizzard, I might have to try this out a bit but it looks good and I've actually heard a lot of good things about it.

Very simple, very user friendly, updates take but a second, and it runs live scan/live prevent just like spybot.

Just downloaded and like it alot. You say it runs a live scan...how or where can I get it to do so (or does it do it automatically)? Anyway, great program as long as Spybot is still on my PC (mostly due to the fact that I know how Spybot works in terms of on my PC).

Spybot is unmatched in it's hmm... 'expert' options.
It gets rid of most stuff, but viruses/adware that block deletion (though regeneration) can be killed with it. Just restart with spybot loading before windows (or at least the user interface part of it) and kill it before it can start up.
The secure shredder is unmatched too.
Good stuff.

Viruses (Virii?)[[Plural of virus]] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plural_of_virus). I like "vira," since it's not already taken, doesn't sound like a shameless Anglicisation of a Latin word, and doesn't require special characters to distinguish from the singular (virūs).
So Now Im going to give Them A Set Of instructions To follow The first of Each Month. It Would Be Easier Just to use The Task Scheduler and Tell Them Not To close Anything.

Your rather liberal use of caps does eventually get annoying. :p

I have a friend who I built a PC for, within 2 months he called me and said he was getting threatening letters from his ISP, and telling me his computer was not behaving like it used to. After looking through it, and finding 17 other profiles (none of which were his) and close to 3000 threats, (that's where it was at when I stopped the scan). All I could say was good God Jay how much **** do you look at!!! Anyhow I just formatted his PC and educated him. To this day I have never seen anything like it. Also both my mother in law and Mother are infamous for getting stuff like that on their PC. (but not for the same reasons....I hope)

Err, sorry if I confused you. It doesn't "scan" say, like spybot, it prevents the intrusions, like Spybots "immunize" feature. It runs in the background all silent and nice like :D

No, I understood that after reading up a little about it. I still like it though as sort of a backup intrusion prevention thing.

Yeah, soon as I found it, I tried it (as I have with most of the programs like that) and I loved it immediately. Stood up to all my tests and pings and didn't falter once.

Now if we can just get Spybot to be like it was back in the 2.1 days before all the lock ups and bugs then I would love that one again too.

i dont know if you did this or not, but this is also a good note for anyone... to truly rid your system of all of the **** when you do these scans, after you run the scan you should reboot your computer and scan again, and keep repeating that until you come up with 0 items / virus's. these things can depend / hinder each other, so deleting one round of virus's / adware / junk doesnt meant that your computer is clean, it just means that it didnt find any others running at that time. First time I learned that it took me 5 reboots to finally get rid of everything HAHA, but believe me its worth it :)

Or use Safe Mode.

Twey
05-01-2007, 06:25 AM
Safe mode is a much better option... otherwise, if you have two programs that are dropping one another, every time you remove one the other will just put it back, and probably spawn a whole new wave of vira and spyware too.

my way is better i use pe-booter and then take a .reg file i backup everyweek and redo my regestry
