I also have a free image upload service http://www.killerchutney.co.uk/imgupload.php
Please Critisise, thanks.

I love your forum theme, but I hate the theme for the rest of the site, and you really need to preload those images (which should be background images with text over the top, not text-image rubbish).

Don't use XHTML unless you're going to serve it as application/xhtml+xml, and certainly don't use a Transitional DOCTYPE for a new site.

Some one likes the Family Guy huh? Obsess much? :D

I agree with Twey on the layouts. But phpbb has better ones too. How about some art to go along with all that text?

If I wanted to read a book I would log off the computer :D

Over all it looks clean and well kept. Nice Job.

Yeah... Overall it's good, but I think you should replace the text banners with graphic ones. It doesn't check in the validator so well, if I were you I'd get around to working out those bugs too.

S/he pointed out that it wasn't valid yet.

Yeah, I want to add thumbnails to the videos, games... but my CMS makes that very hard. And the forum skin is temporary, when phpbb 3 comes out soon, I will make my own. p.s. about the text-images, they use Uni, which is not a standard font so they have to be images or they will show up as times new roman.

p.s. about the text-images, they use Uni, which is not a standard font so they have to be images or they will show up as times new roman. So? Better to have them in a font other than the precise one you specify than to have them completely unreadable, no?

I had images disabled, as I get a lot of virii from browsing with them on. I couldn't see any of that.

Okay, not really, just saying.. it has happened to MY site before. You should read those emails! "I came to your site from a recommendation and there is something wrong with your code! I can't see ANY words!"

ROTF... that was before I knew about degrading and fall backs to your fall backs.

Now, (for the most part of the site, not 100%) I think my site is even do-able in Lynx with moderate satisfaction. Foregoing the Flash intros and what not. :) of course.

Nope. Your site, in Lynx (http://www.twey.co.uk/images/blizzsite-lynx.png), Links (text (http://www.twey.co.uk/images/blizzsite-links.png) and graphical (http://www.twey.co.uk/images/blizzsite-links-g.png)), and eLinks (http://www.twey.co.uk/images/blizzsite-elinks.png).

Foregoing the Flash intros and what not. :) of course.

Heh. ;)

BTW.. I know you don't use Gnome very often (if at all) but would you happen to know how to change the font color of the task bars in Gnome? The text is black, but if I have transparency on on the task bars and a black background.. obviously...

Ok, I have managed to make the site valid HTML, and I don't think that the links are unreadable at all - Its a pixel font, its meant to be small. Oh, Im going to make a low bandwidth version with minimal images.

Looking better. The one thing to keep in mind when designing a site though.. it isn't always what you think looks best.

Sure, design your site your way with your ideas, just keep in mind that the visitors are the reason you have a web site. If they can't see the font, or read the text, or like the too bright/too dark, they will leave. That's just how it is.

No one here is saying to NOT have images as text. But think about this... People all over have different eye sight, different types of monitors, different resolutions. The great thing about fonts is that through the browser the user can adjust as needed, make the text larger or smaller set a default font etc etc. If your site is that attractive to them they will make those adjustments to ensure they can see everything. If all your text is in an image, they are stuck in their options... either stay and strain their eyes, or leave... and most won't stay ;)

it isn't always what you think looks best.

Which is on of the most frustrating things about working for others.

They don't always know what's best, and in the end your finished product is not something you can ultimately be proud of.

Are you sure about that text though? Your site and all but, it flows really well and then BAM that text...

I don't have GNOME installed at the moment, but I did find this (http://www.ubuntugeek.com/change-font-color-in-gnome-panels.html).

Cool! Thanks, I looked everywhere, I knew of and all I could find were "Can you do that?" and "I have no idea!"

I will give it a go.

However... this bothers me...

Open your terminal and edit this file

vi .gtkrc-2.02

An empty Text document will open, and you need to copy/paste the following lines

Why would there be a file already in the HD that was blank to start with?

There won't, necessarily.

Also, the version number should of course be changed to match your version of GTK.
