u should've included a picture of the cursors :D

Good point:D

djr33
01-07-2007, 09:04 PM
Is that really the whole script?
It's fine, but it's not enough to be called a script or get hosted, or anything....

yoshi555
01-07-2007, 09:07 PM
What do you mean:confused:

mburt
01-07-2007, 09:09 PM
^^What he (djr33) said (oops, this was posted before yoshi55 posted that.).
It's pretty much just a bunch of cursors, which anyone could find somewhere on the internet. It's one simple script.

djr33
01-07-2007, 09:10 PM
It's ONE LINE of code. That's not a script, nor something DD could require a link back to for, since it's... just one line.

Plus, it's not even a script, but rather an attribute on the body tag.

To claim owernship on something, it can't be common knowledge, which, sorry to say it, that is.

If you are submitting the cursors as your OWN art, then that might be different, but the code itself isn't worth much.

yoshi555
01-07-2007, 09:10 PM
Actually I made those cursors myself:mad:

djr33
01-07-2007, 09:11 PM
See my edit.

That's fine. But I'm not sure if DD wants to host IMAGES, rather than code.
The code isn't anything people don't know, as I said, so it would just be hosting the images/icons.

yoshi555
01-07-2007, 09:12 PM
Its like those cursors inside the cursor link on the homepage

mburt
01-07-2007, 09:13 PM
Okay, the images fine. But the whole idea of this is completely ridiculous, I found out how to apply cursors by simply checking the css database in TopStyle Lite. There's no reason for this to be an entire script on DD.

yoshi555
01-07-2007, 09:13 PM
Did you even look at the cursors

djr33
01-07-2007, 09:15 PM
THE CURSORS ARE NOT A SCRIPT
And how good they are is not relevant.

Read above:
Use this area to submit an original DHTML or CSS code for other visitors of DD to utlilize or critique. Furthermore, through this method of submission, your code may be added to DD's DHTML or CSS Library section if deemed useful by the admins of DD.

Please Note: This area is for the submission of usable/ practical codes only. If you're just learning DHTML or CSS, this isn't the area to post "my first script."

The SCRIPT isn't going to help anyone. The cursors might, but that's not really the purpose of DD.

Even if you say it is usable/practical, it isn't even a code.

yoshi555
01-07-2007, 09:15 PM
Fine If You Really Want Me To Ill Make A Better Code For A Cursor Ok?!!!!

mburt
01-07-2007, 09:17 PM
Okay, calm down. You have to listen: Making a script entirely for applying cursors is stupid. It's a simple css attribute, there's no more advancing to be done. It can't get any better, it's what it is. The images that you made aren't the point, it's the SCRIPTING!!

djr33
01-07-2007, 09:17 PM
???

We're not mad at you, but the 'script' portion of that is 1 line. Find any script hosted on DD that's just one line. That's not the point of the site.

Since it can be accomplished in one line, why make it longer?

Look... sorry, but that's just not what's being looked for.

No need to get mad.

yoshi555
01-07-2007, 09:19 PM
Well lets see your HTML skils
<li>You know that password thing it radomly chooses a number that you putwell you said that code was wrong IT WORKED PERFETCLY but... When you said that it was wrong and you put in <i>"the right code"</i> and i tried all the codes you put but guess wat they didnt work!!!!!!!!!!!:D

yoshi555

If You Have Nothing Nice To Say Dont Look At My Posts!!!

mburt
01-07-2007, 09:20 PM
The embedded text within <i></i> makes font italic... What does this have to do with cursors or any of this??

yoshi555
01-07-2007, 09:21 PM
I dont need you to tell me wats rong with my cursors codes or anthing else

mburt
01-07-2007, 09:23 PM
I have no idea whatsoever you are talking about... This is really confusing. Why are you talking about posts, and html and stuff? WHAT!?

djr33
01-07-2007, 09:24 PM
This isn't a place for being nice (not say it's specifically for being mean). This is a special forum for submitting code that is relevant to Dynamic Drive. If you want to post this in the graphics section as 'look what I did', then that would be fine and we would look at it in a different way.

The ironic thing of your first post above is that you're using html, but it's not working, one because you have no close tag on the <li> and two, html is disabled in these posts.

I don't really get what you're saying. I may have made a mistake, and, if so, comment on that there and I'll see if I can fix it.

And, this has nothing to do with my 'html skills', considering it's php, AND it's not about you vs. me, it's about you submitting a non-script to the 'submit a script' section, so there's no way it could be accepted. It's NOT a script.

djr33
01-07-2007, 09:24 PM
I dont need you to tell me wats rong with my cursors codes or anthing elseThen don't submit to Dynamic Drive, where we are SUPPOSED to review the SCRIPTS that could be hosted and are worthy of it.

Someone close this thread, please.

djr33
01-07-2007, 09:26 PM
I wish you'd understand that we're not insulting you, but that you put your post in the wrong area. This is to submit a CODE for everyone to use, and, since it's not even a code, this isn't something that fits, so we're just telling you that.

Please feel free to post it in graphics if you just want people to look at your ART.

yoshi555
01-07-2007, 09:26 PM
and guess wat I made a lot of cool codes just not posted like:

<form method="post" action="mailto:email@??.com">
<input type="name" value="name"> <br />
Whats you favorite food?
<select>
<option value="turkey">Turkey</option>
<option value="Oreos">oreos</option>
<option value="steak">Steak</option>
</select>
<input type="submit" value="Sendata..."><input type="reset" value="Clear form"></form>

djr33
01-07-2007, 09:27 PM
LMAO.

That's also common knowledge.

You're not getting it.

Ok, close the thread. Heh.

My favorite thing about that code is the inversion of the capitalization each line. Nice.

djr33

Yep. I desperately want to find people to read this, and share the entertainment.

djr33
01-07-2007, 09:29 PM
"What thread?"

Thread meaning section? Click to the main part of the forum, and you'll find graphics there, if you are referring to my suggestion of posting your art in graphics.

...Wait. Are you trying to be funny or something?

yoshi555
01-07-2007, 09:31 PM
Did you read my comment earlier it said that found a lot of your codes that were right wait a minute there i mean WRONG

yoshi555
01-07-2007, 09:33 PM
And if you think you guys are so smart im going to look at your posts LOL

djr33
01-07-2007, 09:35 PM
Umm... ok?
Congratulations?

I intentionally write many of my scripts in pseudo-script format, leaving blanks that people need to fill in, especially if they are PHP.

I already responded about the password generator.

Just saying "it's wrong" doesn't do much. If it is, then tell me what I should fix, and I'd be happy to play with it.

yoshi555
01-07-2007, 09:36 PM
ahhh but did you hear that WRONG wa your never wrong LOL

djr33
01-07-2007, 09:36 PM
You're immature and silly.

The question was about a specific submission. Insulting us or even proving us wrong (if you happen to do so) isn't going to help anything. Your submission isn't worthy, as has been explained a lot, so that means there's no point in arguing with us.

As I said, it isn't you vs. me, but just that the specific script doesn't fit the guidelines of submission.

yoshi555
01-07-2007, 09:37 PM
ha ah aha

yoshi555

:p Wait wat was that I didnt under stand your to smart aha aha aha aha aha

mburt
01-07-2007, 09:39 PM
I'm learning all of the time, reading my posts won't prove anything. When I first came here, I only knew Javascript, CSS, and HTML. Yes, very sad. Now I mainly know (HTML), Javascript (more, and an implentation; ecmascript), PHP, CSS, Ajax - and that's only for web programming languages. I know C++, Java, and learning C (similar to PHP).

yoshi555

Stop spamming.

If you have something useful to say, go ahead.

Otherwise, it's against the TOS to just spam.

We're being quite reasonable with you.

Ill stop if you stop:cool:

djr33
01-07-2007, 09:41 PM
Ok, thanks for saying so.

We're not insulting you, just saying this specific submission isn't the right type of submission for this site.

Anyway, discussion is over.

I think you are being a little too hard on yoshi555. I'm not sure if there still are but, the DD library once contained scripts not much more advanced than that*. Besides, the example cursor is pretty cool if you go in for that sort of thing.

yoshi555, you would serve yourself well if you didn't respond at all to these folks trying to tell you that your code is too simple, or at least kept your responses dignified. I realize that it is hard to soar like an eagle when you are flying with turkeys. One must try though.

John, that's two lines, it is actually javascript, not just an attribute, and that's not necessarily just common knowledge. It's applied in a certain way. The property of cursor isn't applied, but just used in it's default state.

Posting, for example, <div width="30"> wouldn't be a code, since it's just using normal elements.

As for the cursors themselves, I have said clearly that they are fine, but I don't know/think that DD hosts just graphics. Maybe they could be added to the library of another script with cursors.

if (document.all||document.getElementById)
document.body.style.background="url('notebook.jpg') white center no-repeat fixed"

is actually even worse than:

<style type="text/css">
body {
background:url('notebook.jpg') white center no-repeat fixed;
}
</style>

which is just normal css. So, yoshi555 just needs to find some hokey way of turning it into a javascript and it would be a natural.

<div width="30">

on the other hand, is invalid as far as I know.

djr33
01-07-2007, 10:46 PM
That's invalid? In what sense? It works in any browser, I believe.

Whatever, <div style="width:30"> :p

Listen to your friend John!:p

That was unnecessary, I think djr33 mentioned earlier, say something here ONLY if you have something meaningful to say.

yoshi555
01-07-2007, 10:58 PM
whatever

djr33
01-07-2007, 11:21 PM
mburt, I know what he said, but my point holds true for <div style=...>

And, i've used width="" many times, with no problems.
But that's not relevant, so just going with someone we can agree upon.

mburt
01-07-2007, 11:24 PM
So you're saying that this works:

<div width="50" style="border:1px solid black">test</div>

jscheuer1
01-07-2007, 11:28 PM
<div width="30">

Is not valid and does not work. It may appear to work but, try this:

<!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/1999/REC-html401-19991224/loose.dtd">
<html>
<head>
<title></title>
<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=iso-8859-1">
<style type="text/css">
div {
border:1px solid black;
}
</style>
</head>
<body>
<div width="30">b</div>
</body>
</html>

You will see that the width is actually 100%.

mburt
01-07-2007, 11:30 PM

^^ That's the point I'm trying to prove. The code I gave displayed the same results

You're right, we cross posted. Anyways, if yoshi555 just did:

<script type="text/javascript">
if (document.all||document.getElementById)
document.body.style.cursor="url('cursor.ani')"
</script>

it would be the same as the other 'script'. But, I favor:

<style type="text/css">
body {
cursor:url('cursor.ani');
}
</style>

However it is done, it is DHTML of a sort, certainly a css code as fits in this sub-forum.

mburt
01-07-2007, 11:42 PM
it would be the same as the other 'script'. But, I favor:
Yes, definitely. I'd use CSS instead of JavaScript for the simple fact some people block JavaScript in their browsers.

yoshi555
01-08-2007, 12:01 AM
Guys lets settle this if you don like my code than wat about this 1?:<script>
<!--
document.write(unescape("%20%3CBODY%20style%3D%22CURSOR%3A%20url%28%27cursor.ani%27%29%22%3E%0D%0A"));
//-->
</script> its tha same thing but I can figure out how to choose the cursor so.. wats the point in arguing:eek:

yoshi555
01-08-2007, 12:04 AM
never mind i no how <script>
<!--
document.write(unescape("%20%3CBODY%20style%3D%22CURSOR%3A%20url%28%27cursor.ani%27%29%22%3E%0D%0A"));
//-->
</script>you just change that so happy its a loger code ok?

yoshi555
01-08-2007, 12:07 AM
So if you want to change the cursor on your page:

<script>
<!--
document.write(unescape("%20%3CBODY%20style%3D%22CURSOR%3A%20url%28%27
cursor.ani%27%29%22%3E%0D%0A"));
//-->
</script>

just change the cursor.ani to a .ani or .cur (only works if you downloaded a program)

mburt
01-08-2007, 12:10 AM
var cursor = "cursorfile.ani"
document.write(unescape("%20%3CBODY%20style%3D%22" + cursor + "%3A%20url%28%27%27%29%22%3E%0D%0A"));
Easier to edit.
But I don't understand why you aren't just using CSS.
