Dynamic Ajax Content

I've set this script up on a site i'm developing: http://www.mahoosive.co.uk/eccl

But I want to give each link some sort of identifier in the address bar. Then I'll be able to link from external sites to more relevant pages.

Eg. I've got a link for "Guildford" on the home page. but Instead of that going to index.html with the content from guildford.html i'd like it to be something like index.html#guildford.

Does that make sense? Sorry if I sound vague, I haven't really delved into AJAX before.

Just thought I'd add why i'm doing this...

I'm lead to believe this will add history into the browser so users can use the back button. Also, hope it will refresh the current content, rather than just the index.html when users hit F5.
