View Full Version : Conveyor Slideshow makes home page blackout in Firefox - Please help

1) Script Title: Conveyor Belt Slideshow

2) Script URL (on DD): http://www.dynamicdrive.com/dynamicindex14/leftrightslide.htm

3) Describe problem:
I uploaded this slideshow to my homepage, and it seems to work ok in IE and Safari (but takes forever to load?). But in Firefox, it makes my whole home page (except for the slideshow) go completely black every ten seconds. It also goes black if you attempt to scroll down the page.

When I'm in the "Edit" Screen of my Adminstrator page to my website, it doesn't do that, but if I go to view the actual homepage like anyone else would, it goes black every few seconds.

Any ideas if this can be fixed? it's supposed to work in FF, so I assume maybe I can do something to fix it?

Here's my home page if that helps: http://www.imag-inations.com
If you need me to paste in my actual script from that page, please let me know.

Thanks a lot,

Your page has (for some reason) infinite height in FF. Also, the source code is invalid and has way too much blank space and way too many nested tables in it. Fixing those things may take care of the infinite height problem. The images themselves are a part of the problem, being of a much greater byte size than needed, increasing the load time.

Thank you John - I'm going to have a friend who knows this stuff much better than me, try to fix the things you pointed out since I have no clue how to.

Can you tell me what you mean by the byte size of the images though? Do I need to resave them smaller in pixels/inches, or is there a way to decrease the byte size without affecting the actual pixel size?

Thanks so much for your reply, hopefully that's the problem and my friend can help me figure it out.

The byte size of images may be reduced through optimization with little or no loss of quality. DD has a link to an online image optimizer from the front page or you can look at it here:

There are also programs for this that compress the byte size even more with good quality and - skillful use of an image program like photoshop, the gimp or paintshop can yield similar results but not as much savings as a dedicated program can in most cases.
