How do you create a sucker tree vertical menu?

I really need a good tutorial on how to make one of these. I'm not even sure if that is what it is called, 'cause I've herd that and sucker fish. I've looked at dynamicdrive and they only give you codes for it, no tutorial, not that I have seen anyway. I have tried to google it so many times, and it never is what I asked for. If someone could please, pretty please, help me, it would be greatly appreciated.
