View Full Version : Viewing a document in Tabbed Content Script?

1) Script Title:
Tab Content script
Tabbed Document Viewer

2) Script URL (on DD):

http://www.dynamicdrive.com/dynamicindex17/tabcontent.htm
http://www.dynamicdrive.com/dynamicindex3/tabdocviewer.htm

3) Describe problem:
I'd like to mix these two scripts together. I have a page ( http://www.flyingscool.com/TopicsInAviation.htm ) where I have a number of tabs displaying documents from other sites. I'd like to add a tab to this tablist with content from this page (eventually I want to replace all the tabs with local content, but until I write it, I'm using others). Is this possible?

I realize I could just write my own document and display it in an iframe. The reason I prefer internal content is that I understand it is more web spider friendly to have content on the page than it is to use frames, etc.. Plus, people searching may find the document for inside the frame, but not see the page that is supposed to contain it.

I tried to add an iframe inside of a tab on another of my pages with tabbed content, but it screwed up the display on IE6. ( http://www.flyingscool.com/UsingMSFS.htm ).

I like the tabs on the Tab Content script better, and am hoping to transplant them into the Tabbed Document Viewer script.

Any ideas on how I can mix these scripts together, have some tabs with internal content and others displaying content from other pages?

Am I going about this properly?

Thanks,

Thomas

The Tabbed Document Viewer uses iframes.

Yes, I know. That's the point. I'd like to put local content into a tab for the Tabbed Document Viewer. By local content, I mean content in the page, as opposed to displaying content from another page in an iframe. IOW, I'd like to mix the capabilities of the two scripts into one.

I was hoping I could go at it at back-ass ways by putting an iframe into a content div in the Tabbed Content script. I like its tabs better anyway. But that didn't work.

How about:

http://www.dynamicdrive.com/dynamicindex17/ajaxtabscontent/index.htm

That uses a document without an iframe and is otherwise basically identical to the Tab Content script.

This script would be perfect, unfortunately, the content I am trying to load is coming from a different domain. Is there any way around the security limitation of the script that blocks this?

Thanks,

Do you have server-side scripting available?

I'm sorry, I don't know what that means. I believe I do. How would I know? I have cpanel with fantastico, and there is something called "Apache Handlers" which allows me to add cgi, pl for cgi-script, php php4 php3 for application/x-httpd-php, and server parsed shtml, if that is any help. Plus there are a bunch of preinstalled cgi scripts.

Thanks,
What does "much more checking is required" mean? Are there any tutorials that describe how to set up a server side script? What dangers are there in doing this?

As long as you've got a suitable timeout set for PHP scripts, it should be fine. If you haven't, someone could overload your server.
