Need info on how to purchase/own a web name; eg "myheli"?

I just need to own the rights to the name, no need for bandwidth and the cheapest cost.

Thanks,

Girard

Well, I find the easiest and cheapest way is to do the following:

Get a student account at brinkster.com (free), then upgrade to the next level which will allow you a domain name.

The reason for getting a student package is that when you upgrade from student to personal package they give you a deal. (something lik $3 a month, compared to $6)

The personal package doesn't have php, and for that you'll need the next level up.

I find it's a great web hosting service :)

I just want to secure a name for a future website. Not sure when I'll have the site up so purchasing the name for the site so that no one registers it.

Thanks

That's what I wanted to do also. Wasn't planning on hosting my site anytime soon but I didn't want anyone taking my chosen domain. I registered it with ipowerweb for $2.95 a year and that included private registration. Then when I was ready to host I transferred to godaddy.

Thanks guys ... I went to godaddy and paid $14.95 for 1 year w/privacy.

I'll consider that info as its alot less then what I paid.
