View Full Version : Google update- be prepared

I think the boy scout motto is ""be prepared"", and this would apply to a possible Google shakeup. Last year at this time, Google had a massive update (Florida) that knocked gazillions (estimate of course) of pages out of the rankings. Could it happen again this year? Will it? And if it does, are you prepared? How quickly can you spin on a dime, figure out what happened, rectify the situation, and return your site to the previously held high rankings? Do some homework now as a ""just in case"" measure. My blog today addresses this (at www.seo-scoop.com), but basically I suggest you take screenshots of current SERPs of your keywords (and whatever else you think should be tracked - maybe travel, real estate, web design, etc.) so that you have something to compare to new SERPs, should a massive update occur. The ability to compare the old with the new may just save your butt.

If a site is interesting, people will visit it. If enough people visit it, people will link to it. If enough people link to it, the ranking goes up. That's really pretty much all there is to SEO, as far as I'm concerned. The proportion of sites discovered through Google to those discovered through some other service (like Kelkoo or Froogle, or a link from another site) is probably pretty low anyway. Generic search engines are the only ones interested in all these esoteric tips offered by SEO publications; the rest of the world is more interested in your content. Of course, it's a problem if search engines truly hate your page, but that probably means you've failed to follow one of the basic rules of web design anyway, so it's really not anything to worry about.

Or you could just pay YOUR money for YOUR web hosting, put content on YOUR site that interest YOU and who cares if everyone else sees it?

I say this as I enter my sites 13th month online and just hit 2.3 million unique IPS :D Not that I am counting... ROTF
