View Full Version : Sliding Layers

Back in the day before MS got pushy, when version 3 browsers held sway, I used a script that would slide a layer onto the screen on a mouseOver event. It didn't work in MSIE, but I didn't care. Now I can't seem to find it anymore, and Dynamic Drive doesn't appear to have anything like this either.

Does someone here know of a script that will do this and work in both browsers nowadays? If so, please hit me on ICQ 272185119 or shoot me an email.

The closest script I can think of is: http://www.dynamicdrive.com/dynamicindex5/bottomtool.htm It is cross browser functional however.

Take a look at the demonstration (http://www.mlwinter.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/dd/trickedmedia/slide.html) I've prepared. So far, it's been tested with IE 5.01+, Opera 7.54, Firefox 1.0, Mozilla 1.0+, and Netscape 7.2. Functionally, everything's fine but performance is off with Gecko-based browsers, particularly early versions of Mozilla. I'm not sure if there's much I can do about that. Obviously, setting a reasonable interval period will help somewhat.

The two scripts are admittedly very large, but that's mainly due to heavy commenting. Furthermore, many of the features in hash.js aren't used. On a production site, those unused features should be removed (as well as the comments and excessive whitespace).

I could have added support for NN4, but that browser is (or should be) dead so I couldn't be bothered.
